Mining History Association

The Mining History Association (MHA) has a limited number of travel grants available for student presenters on the Program at each Annual Conference. If you are a graduate or upper-division undergraduate student and would like to be considered for a travel grant, please use e-mail to submit a cover letter addressed to the MHA Grants Committee along with your presentation proposal (abstract and biographical information) by the deadline. In the cover letter, an applicant should estimate his/her travel costs to the conference (Virginia City, Nevada June 11-14, 2015) and explain what he/she hopes to gain from the conference experience. This award is intended to help defray some of the direct travel costs to the conference.

The MHA Grants Committee determines the number of awards and their amounts. The grant also includes a waiver for the basic conference registration fee.

Criteria for selection include the following:

1. Travel distance and travel costs
2. An evaluation of both how much the participant will benefit from the conference.
3. Significance of the presentation to mining history.

Grant Applications and questions should be sent by November 30, 2014 to: Brian Leech at

By the same date, applicants should also send their presentation proposal to the conference Program Chair to be considered for acceptance into the Program. Please see the Call for Papers on the conference web page for more information. Proposals should include the title of the presentation, an abstract, the presenterís biographical information, and contact information.

Thanks for your application.
The MHA Grants Committee: Brian Leech (Chair), Eric Nystrom, David Wolff
