The Town of Kelly and the Kelly Cemetery (Continued)

There are 50 burials recorded on FindAGrave.com (as of July 2023). Many grave plots indicate that loved ones still tend the graves.  Others have been long forgotten.  In addition to those born in the U.S. there are graves of immigrants from England, Italy, Old Mexico, and Switzerland.

The grave markers vary in style. This marker appears to be made from a piece of ore from the nearby mines.

Many burial plots were fenced at one time.  Most of the wooden fences have deteriorated with time.

Metal fences have held up better through the winter snows and summer heat.

A few gravestones indicate membership in fraternal organizations or military service.

Sadly, the high rate of infant mortality in mining camps is reflected by the grave of seven children.

As the MHAers return from the cemetery, they reflect on the varied stories of the people buried there, on their diverse immigrant backgrounds, and on the beauty of the mountains and desert of their final resting place.
